Hong, D., Zhao G., and Wang, D., "Differential Diagnosis of Vegetative Nervous Disorder with Organic Heart Disease by Applying Reflexo-massage to Foot Reflex of Celiac Plexus." 1998 China Reflexology Symposium Report, Beijing : China Reflexology Association, pages 9-10.

Synopsis:

50 cases, all female, with vegetative nerve functional disturbances were given 20-30 minutes of foot reflexology focusing on the celiac plexus reflex area. An ECG was done before and after the session. Forty cases showed a normal ECG after the session indicating their diagnosis was right. It was thought that using this technique one could tell a vegetative nerve functional disturbance from coronary artherosclerotic cardiopathy and mycardial ischemia. This proved to be a new way to determine functional or organic heart disease with the same effect as regular ECK tests such as propanolol tests, potassium chloride tests, the two-step exercise test and bicycle test with 80% accuracy.

Conclusion:

Foot reflexology was found to be effective for the relief of differentiation of functional and organic heart diseases.
