Oh, SY., “The Effects of Hand Reflexology on Saeng-Chi and Immunity in ESRD Patients.” J Korean Acad. Fundam Nurs.2002 Aug;9(2):213-225, Korean.
Synopsis:
43 people were divided into two groups-23 into an experimental group and 20 into a control group. Hand reflexology was given to both hands for 10 minutes a day for 5 days. An evaluation was done before and after to evaluate the effects of the program. The physiological response was decreased after the 1st session and the 5th.. The BP was decreased on the 1st session but not on the 5th. After 5 sessions, the Hb increased and the BUN and Cr decreased in the experimental group. In the emotional and motivational responses, there was an increase in vigor, mood, uplifts and self care agen scores.
Conclusion:
Hand reflexology is found to be an effective mind-body nursing intervention for enhancing Saeng-chi responses and affecting some of the immune responses. How-ever, further study is needed.
